Premiere of a documentary “The land of tulips” took place In Almaty. The film was made at “Kazakhfilm” studio due to the request from Ministry of Culture and Sports of RoK.
The new documentary directed by Oleg Belyalov tells the story of tulip – ne of most well-known and beloved flowers in the world. The film is dedicated to the ancient history of this unique flower.
I am very happy I once persuaded the outstanding photographer Oleg Belyalov to try himself as a director. Of course, it was a bold move for him. And today we watch his films with such deep pleasure, - told the president of “Kazakhfilm” Bakhyt Kairbekov.
Also, Kairbekov awarded Belyalov with a prize for his first documentary “Altyn Emel” which was named the best foreign documentary at Taizhou Week of Asian Arts. The Filmmakers’s Union of Kazakhstan also recognized Belyalov as the best documentary filmmaker during “Kulager” awards ceremony.
I’ve been doing photography for so many years and never received any prizes. And today I am very very happy to receive this prize. This is very important for me, - said Oleg Belyalov.
The principal photography of “The land of tulips” took place in Almaty, Zhambyl and South-Kazakhstani oblasts – as well as in Central Kazakhstan. The film used some archive footage of last years.
Most of people associate tulips with Netherlands. But very few know the real cradle of tulips is Kazakhstan. I am very happy President Nazarbayev mentioned it in his article “The seven planes of the Great Steppe”. These flowers are our fortune, our pride and our brand. We should protect and care of them, - said film’s consultant Anna Ivaschenko.
After the screening viewers long applauded and eagerly shared their impressions, thoughts and emotions.
Oleg Belyalov was born in Almaty in 1960. He made his first photographs in 1970 with “Smena-7” camera. It was then that he developed an interest towards wildlife and birds. From 1984 to 1987 he worked as a cameraman at “Kazakhfilm” studio. Took part in many zoological expeditions, photoshoots and films about Kazakhstan’s wildlife.
